Automating migration from a legacy mainframe to current server platforms and then automating the new environment may seem a bit dry and boring. However, even though automating IT operations at Baylor College of Medicine may not be glitzy and glamorous, it is fundamental to ensure 99.99% up-time and provide the most efficient and cost effective “lights out” computing environment available for doctors that are relying on these systems to save lives. Although I haven’t yet investigated what other hospitals and associated health organizations are utilizing, I would be surprised it they weren’t using products or a variety of product that are very similar. In the end, I think the “take away” with OpCon is that it enables large organizations to control all of their systems from a single platform. This is impressive and the inefficiencies and cost savings to clients is obvious.
